Straight paint application or decorative finish?
It is often that my clients become so enthusiastic about our decorative finishes that they want to see them throughout their entire home. As flattering as that is, and as nice as it is to have the work; I try very hard to not allow our finishes to be over used.
Color is a wonderful tool. As a color consultant I work hard to create spaces that are defined by color, but also that flow from room to room. As a decorative painter my roll as a color consultant is very important to creating the right finish. My job is to create backdrops that are pleasing to the eye and that enhance the other surfaces and furnishings in the home. For me, subtlety is always the answer. A subtle finish in a soft color really can be used as a “neutral” throughout a large area. A finish with more visual punch is best restricted to one room, or even one wall.
When designing wall finishes adjacent spaces are always taken into account. We will recommend straight paint colors that are complimentary for ceiling, trim and adjoining spaces. Additional visual interest can be brought in with texture and accessories; it doesn’t always have to be on the wall.
