We love custom designed furniture and accessories, but we know not everyone has time to wait for a piece to be built or the budget to afford them. You don't have to shell out the big money to find great accessories and furnishings for your rooms. So here's a round-up of our secret shopping stops.
Home Goods is a veritable wonderland of items. But don't count on the website to show what's really there, they only show what they always have in stock. The real finds are the odd lots and pieces. So find a store near you and drop in. From the occasional piece of Terre e' Provence pottery to an always in stock collection of Spode to rugs, furniture and garden containers, you're sure to find something special.
Room and Board has terrific modern pieces of furniture at reasonable prices. If you don't live west of the Mississippi you can still shop through their online catalog.
Z Gallery is an online store that mixes great finds with unadulterated junk. Right now I like their bamboo laquerware and mirrored furniture, which has been very popular recently.
Trailer Park in Brooklyn, NY, has been a source for handcrafted Amish furniture at an affordable price since 1998.
Whenever we visit New York we stop into Fishs Eddy for the sheer fun of it. For vintage dishes it can't be beat, and it's cheap, cheap cheap!
We all love 100% cotton sheets but the prices can be jaw-dropping. Check out Overstock.com for unbeatable savings on sheets, down comforters and more.
